The Gravel House

"Gravel House" has a strong architectural identity that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings and respects both the site’s history and the local architectural language.

The design maintains a low-rise profile with pitched roofs, making the house feel inviting and well-proportioned to human scale, that’s why the shaded pergolas, patios, and poolside decks suggest a design that prioritizes outdoor living, which is essential in warm climates.

The earthy tones of the exterior, clay-like walls, and terracotta roof tiles create a deep connection to Mediterranean architecture, particularly the rural structures of Greece and southern Italy. The use of climbing plants on the pergolas and the landscaping with native plants such as lavender and olive trees enhance the organic feel of the house.

The Materials

The stone retaining walls add structural stability to the site while reinforcing the connection to local materials.

The use of materials that age well (natural stone, stucco, and terracotta) ensures the house will maintain its aesthetic appeal over time.

Overall, this is a beautifully executed project that respects both the site’s history and the local architectural language. What was your main design inspiration for this?
